The Word of God, also known as the Bible, is the most important book you will ever read. This isn’t just a book, this is a living testament of who God was, is, and will be to each of us if submit our lives to him. It’s like a road map that will guide you through all of life’s ups and downs. It’s a living vessel, and if read it, it will speak back to you.
20 My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings.21 Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.22 For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.
He gave him very specific guidance concerning the word of God. He told him to read the word constantly, embed them in your heart, and in doing so they will be health and life to him. Reading the word God is one thing, but grasping onto the revelatory knowledge that’s coming from the pages is another. You don’t just read the word, you meditate on the word. What most people don’t know is that meditating on the word is like farming. Each promise that’s in the Bible is a seed. Your heart is the soil that you want that seed deposited into, and in order to do this, you must have a working knowledge of that promise.
Mediating on the word of God is more so for you than for anything. Meditate is defined as:
- think deeply or focus one’s mind for a period of time, in silence or with the aid of chanting, for religious or spiritual purposes or as a method of relaxation.
- think deeply or carefully about (something).
- plan mentally; consider.
So when you meditate on the word of God, you are focused on what the word is saying to you. This isn’t done by just skimming through scriptures, nor is it done by just reading a whole book of the Bible to say you read the Bible. God might tell you to read nothing but one scripture, just so you can get the harvest and the knowledge of the revelation, and you have to be ok with that. In Joshua 1:8, the Bible says:
This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
So in other words its saying to read more of the word than you speak of the word. By doing so your filling your life with the word of God, and now your filled with the essence of who God is. You are becoming a walking representative of God, and now you will be prosperous and have good success. All you have to do is read it with a mindset of I want the revelation.
Reading the word of God is one thing, but getting the revelation in your life is another. This doesn’t happen overnight, but happens by surrendering your life and your time to the word and will of God.
~just because you read the word, doesn’t mean you actually know the word.
